1.Huntington County Sheriff Chris Newton / HPD Chief Chad Hacker - It is no secret like most small town America the Drug Epidemic will continue to be a major issue to deal with for the city of Huntington in 2020! These two guys have been spending a lot of time and resources not only battling this issue, but also looking for solutions.

2.HCCSC Superintendent Chad Daugherty- With both Referendums being voted down in November the HCCSC is faced with the question of what to do next about the condition of the High School, and trying to retain and attract good teachers to our schools. There has also been a steady decline in enrollment and this must be addressed. If that isn’t enough you have the Kriegbaum debacle and the sudden resignation of former HCSSC School Superintendent Randy Harris. With Mr. Chad Daugherty taking over as HCCSC Superintendent during what one may argue as the most volatile critical time in the history of HCCSC, it puts him at a great position of influence in 2020.

3.New Mayor of Huntington Richard Strick- For the first time in 8 years Huntington has a New Mayor and there are no shortage of issues his office will be facing in 2020. Like with Law Enforcement Huntington continues to face a Drug Addiction problem. For the first time in at least 50 years the South Side of Huntington does not have a grocery store denying access to fresh produce to the citizens of the South Side. You also have issues like the losses in retail that we continue to see. Issues such as “Outsourcing” continue to be an area of concern. As always TAXES is another issue and how to make downtown Huntington thrive. He is also facing a declining population, how to keep people here, and how to attract new people. As with any mayor of any town he faces a lot of issues and this was just a few.

4.Huntington University President Dr. Sherilyn Emberton- Anytime you have a President of one of the most prestigious Universities in the country it is a big deal to the community it resides in. Furthermore there is an added bonus and that is Huntington University is a Christian Based institution that promotes servent hood through Christ and of course that constant theme and mission statement of Huntington News Now “Loving Others As Much As Yourself”! As HNN has stated many time in the past this is the definition of community and you better believe that anytime there is a major crisis, or major critical decisions made about the future of the city of Huntington, Huntington University is right there standing with open arms, praying without ceasing, and offering any kind of support to the community it can. This definitely puts President Dr. Sherilyn Emberton in the list of the 5 people who will play the biggest roles in the biggest issues Huntington will face in 2020!
